GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, May 8, 2025—Learn about the outdoor filmmaking process from Duluth explorer and thrill-seeker, Ryan Rumpca, on the next episode of Postcards, which airs Thursday, May 15, at 7 p.m. on Pioneer PBS.

Ryan Rumpca, a photographer and filmmaker based in Duluth, Minnesota, has a passion for documenting the hardiness and grit of Minnesota, whether it's remote beauty or the innermost scenes of the local people. Rumpa’s work covers a variety of subjects, not all of them just from just Minnesota, from landscapes to outdoor lifestyles, dog sledding, surfing, sailing, and shipping.

Rumpca uses a drone to enhance his cinematography and filmmaking, showcasing life from different perspectives. He draws on his background in engineering to understand drone mechanics, furthering his craft. He resonates with the adage, “If you're not crashing, you're not flying hard enough.” These two skill sets complement each other, enhancing his aerial shots for his projects.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to view "A Line in the Snow." This first film from Rumpca, filmed a couple of years ago, covers a winter dog sledding trip within the Boundary Waters. It follows a mother and her two daughters as she imparts life and wilderness skills along the way, and they grow closer together as a family throughout the trip.

The Postcards episode repeats the following Sunday at 7 p.m. and Monday at 1:30 p.m. Tune in for behind-the-scenes interviews with Phill Harder, director of “The Claw,” Karl Raschke, producer, and Patrick Pierson, cinematographer.
