Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Business and Production Manager plays a pivotal role in maintaining the smooth operation of Pioneer PBS. This essential position serves as the backbone of office functionality, ensuring that all aspects of business and production operations are efficient, productive, and harmonized. The Business and Production Manager performs a variety of administrative, managerial and clerical tasks to support the company’s employees and senior staff members, while also contributing to better organization and processes of office and production related activities.

Functional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Production Management

The Business and Production Manager is responsible for the management of production staff, timelines, deliverables both for air, online and for grant reporting.

  • Manage and mentor production staff and production contractors.
  • Scheduling; develop production timelines with producers and production staff.
  • Budgeting & Finance; maintaining detailed production budgets, track daily expenditures, and report financial progress to President & GM.
  • Interdepartmental communication; keeping Program Director, Digital Media Specialist and Communications Manager in the know of schedules, descriptions and outputs. Report faulty equipment and future planning requests to Chief Technology Officer.

 

Financial Operations Support

The Business and Production Manager is responsible for various financial related activities that supports the efforts of the President/General Manager, Chief Technology Officer and outside consultants and vendors. This work is accomplished through detailed established practices that provide checks and balances for the entire financial operations of Pioneer PBS.

  • Works with the President/General Manager with budgeting support and reporting as needed. This may include coordination with various vendors when information is necessary. Preparing summary budget narratives and assistance with monthly reimbursements for some grants.
  • Handles digitizing, distribution and filing digitally and physically of all invoices.
  • Codes accounts payable invoices with knowledge of grants and the established chart of accounts and assures approvals by President/General Manager (business and production invoices) and/or Chief Technology Officer (technical and utilities invoices) before scanning and distribution to the consulting firm handling financial oversite for Pioneer.

 

Membership

The Business & Production Manager supports all operational activities related to membership of Pioneer PBS.

  • Coordinates the preparation, printing, and distribution of year-end tax letters by January 30 each year with information from Allegiance vendor reports.
  • Supports any members requesting help with Passport and ensures communication is forwarded to the appropriate team member to support the member.
  • Prepares monthly renewals and mass mailings including securing volunteers for envelope stuffing, postage metering and mailing as needed.
  • Sends any requests from membership for cancellation, address changes, membership queries, and incoming membership checks to business specialist, or to vendors managing Allegiance recording.

 

Reception area, office supplies, mail, and other support areas

The Business and Production Manager is responsible for the daily tasks related to the reception area, ordering and inventorying of office supplies, distribution and filing of daily mail and oversight of other staff support areas.

  • Responsible for engaging individuals as the first point of contact for the public, in person, via YourTV@pioneer.org email and on the telephone.
  • General upkeep of the welcoming area and kitchen as well ensuring phones are answered and the welcoming of incoming members and guests.
  • Distribution of daily mail and packages, invoices (coding, then providing to appropriate parties for approvals), newspapers and preparing all checks that arrive for deposit following established accounting principles. Also manage outgoing shipments and drop off of mass mailings at post office.
  • Ordering and inventorying of office and business supplies and other items as needed.
  • Manage, run and maintain copier and supplies, check printer, check depositor and other devices used by the business (Not IT)
  • Bringing in the paper in the morning and keeping the newspapers in the kitchen organized and recycling as needed with newer editions.

 

Leadership

Stewardship is a shared responsibility at Pioneer.

  • Work with management team and all staff to ensure smooth operation of the station.
  • Assists all leaders in developing a positive corporate culture that strives to be an “Employer of Choice.”

 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The Business and Production Manager will have a high school diploma, and advanced training in areas such as production, business administration, or expertise in office operations and an understanding of sound employee practices and positive corporate culture.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Advanced Excel spreadsheet capability; effective communication skills; ability to coordinate and meet multiple deadlines; desire to learn software; strong organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other organization software as needed to do the work.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Communications Manager is an effective written and well-spoken communicator and relationship builder with a passion for the mission of public media. They are responsible for brand management and leading the communications team that includes the Pioneer PBS website and social channels.  In addition to managing the department’s work product, they are also responsible for writing, editing, posting or photography as needed to ensure the team meets all deadlines. They will make regular presentations to an array of internal and external constituents and have strong presentation and data analysis skills.  They are also tasked with creating communication strategies and plans ensuring that messaging aligns with Pioneer PBS’s brand and fundraising goals. 

Functional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Oversight and supervision of Communications Department Staff with respect to:

  • Developing and implementing creative strategies to enhance brand awareness, member commitment, fundraising and grant opportunities.
  • Implements annual, monthly and weekly communications action plans which drive interest and visibility for membership, underwriting, grants and internal communications
  • Creates content such as media releases, newsletters, speeches, blogs, social media posts, membership communications and internal communications in collaboration with the Pioneer PBS team
  • Writing and distribution of media releases promoting local programs and station developments
  • Website Content Management (Via BENTO CMS)
  • E-Newsletter Creation and Contact Database Management
  • Social Media Content Strategy/Creation/Management Leading interviews of staff, members, community leaders and behind the scenes content
  • Graphic Design Oversight (Membership, Online, Productions, Logos and Other Projects)
  • Management of Online Video Portal, video organization and upload (YouTube, PBS Media Manager, Facebook and other social media platforms)
  • Management of Livestream of 5 channels.
  • Monitors communication campaigns, analyzing effectiveness and providing strategic feedback
  • Oversees Website Analytics (Weekly Reports to Management & Production Teams)
  • Oversees Social Media Analytics
  • Manages Google Adwords “Search” Ad Management
  • Tracking of Domain registrations and protection of brand external and internal. Scheduling, writing copy and managing external communications in collaboration with station leadership including bi-monthly publication of the Pioneer Preview Guide.
  • Public Speaking and Public Relations as one of the key faces of Pioneer PBS. Maintains organization-wide adherence to Pioneer PBS brand guidelines
  • Working cooperatively with representatives of all Pioneer departments to advance Pioneer’s mission
  • Compliance with all Pioneer PBS policies, grant or funder guidelines, FCC Guidelines and State and Federal Laws. Serves as a leader on the Management Team to ensure smooth operation and employee retention within all departments. Behaves as a role model for other employees in the organization.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

This position is required to tell Pioneer PBS’s story and convince others to support the organization financially. The Communications Manager will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related fields and/or have a demonstrated understanding of external and internal communications and branding as well as progressive success in messaging. The Communications Manager will be expected to be one of the key public faces of Pioneer PBS.  The Communications Manager must have project management and organizational abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent ability to track and analyze data and formulate trends and inspire changing direction when necessary.

Our awesome volunteers happily spend their time at our studio in Granite Falls helping stuff envelopes for membership mailings that take place throughout the year. The Pioneer PBS Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a group of community leaders who help assess if station programming meets regional needs. CAB members help Pioneer PBS by communicating emerging needs of various communities to station management; monitoring and evaluating public television program and content; and giving a voice to under served segments of Pioneer PBS's service area.
