Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for maintaining all facilities including buildings, properties, HVAC systems, and vehicles owned by Pioneer PBS as well as assisting the engineering department as needed. This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt hourly position. The work hours will be determined by the CTO but will generally be Monday –Friday during normal business hours and nights and weekends as required.

Functional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

INTERNAL

  • Maintain water softener system by adding pellet salt to the tank
  • Check on the sewer system, pump it out every two years (we use Lauriston’s out of Montevideo) and coordinate with CTO on call for service when needed.
  • Empty trash in the bathrooms and make sure at least one extra roll of toilet paper is available each day.
  • Empty trash and recycling in the kitchen and place new bags in each receptacle.
  • Supervise the weekly part time janitorial services.

 

EXTERNAL

  • Maintain all walkways to keep them clear for foot traffic. This would include any debris, and more specifically snow and ice during the winter season. This should be done prior to any other employees or visitors start arriving.
  • Maintain walkways during the weather event throughout the day including pathway to the LP tanks.
  • Coordinate with our snow removal vendor for the parking lots.
  • Mowing of all areas on the property, and weed whip around areas that can’t be mowed.
  • Seasonal grounds maintenance, mulching, clear and removal of dead plants etc. around the building in the spring/late fall to allow for new to start growing and haul all dead foliage to the compost site.
  • Maintain all equipment powered and non-powered so they are in good working condition and all service intervals are tended to.
  • Check building entrance door(s) operations frequently to assure they are in good working order.
  • Track any holiday or community room hours needed for doors to be open or closed outside of the normal schedule (9am-4pm) and update computer accordingly
  • Monitor security camera footage for any activities needing to be reported or archived.
  • Maintain the pump in the pond at the end of the parking lot.

 

VEHICLES

  • Perform or coordinate service/maintenance, both on a preventive and an emergency basis, on all vehicles, and small engine equipment, tools and machinery. This includes all site standby generators.
  • Perform light service on all company vehicles.
    • Oil/filter changes at each required interval
    • Add critical fluids to all of the reservoirs under the hood (usually just windshield washer fluid).
    • Keep a maintenance log of the service done, date etc.
    • Check mileage on vehicles regularly to be sure to administer timely service intervals.
  • Clean station cars of snow and ice on a regular basis.
  • Clean the interior of each vehicle. Dust the dash and instrument clusters as needed. Wipe the steering wheel and all controls as well a=with anti-bacterial wipes or a damp cloth as needed. Vacuum vehicle throughout.
  • Check air pressure of the tires and visually inspect the tread and tire condition on a regular basis.
  • Rotate tires as recommended by manufacturer.
  • Get estimate for work on vehicles needing work outside of our capabilities. i.e. new tires, major repairs such as exhaust, engine work and the like.
  • Submit estimates to management for prior authorization of work.
  • Communicate with staff about any vehicle being taken out of service so vehicle is not used.
  • Maintain documentation into the service log.

 

OFFSITE WORK (Tower locations Appleton, Chandler, Ivanhoe, Elbow Lake and Erhard)

  • Responsible for maintenance and repair at tower’s and sites including landscape, buildings, HVAC and electrical work.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the inside of each building by sweeping and emptying trash.
  • Mitigate rodent intrusion at each site via trap or poison use.
  • Ensure that all transmitter equipment is clean and free from debris and insects etc.
  • Outside of the buildings, maintain any HVAC units by cleaning debris and dirt from the cooling fins via high pressure air and blow gun. Occasionally cleaning may be needed by water and a soft brush to remove stubborn dirt. Fins are delicate and care must be used when cleaning.
  • Coordinate service, both on a preventative and an emergency basis, on all HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment or systems at all facilities and sites.
  • Check pressure lines to ensure we have adequate pressure in the transmission lines. Maintain 2-3 PSI. Change nitrogen tanks as needed. If the site has a dryer, check pressures on the dryer unit itself.
  • Clear weeds from the immediate building areas as well as around any AC units.
  • Clear all anchors for our towers utilizing weed whip and tree shears when needed. Use of chemicals is also ok when clearing anchors.
  • Mow areas where it is easy to get in and out with the mower. Weed whip around inaccessible areas such as fences and tight areas around equipment.
  • Assist engineering as needed to install new equipment etc.
  • Winter months will require auxiliary heaters. These can be set up late October. Set at 60-65 degrees. Use the inline thermostats at each site. Turn these units OFF mid to late April.
  • At the Appleton facility until Preserve Appleton takes over (which could be as late as 2030);
    • Light maintenance as needed by tenants.
    • Mow around the building and over at the garage across the street. Maintain grass inside of fence as well (by the dish). (this could be removed as soon as Granite Falls master control is running and tenants agree to cover).
    • Coordinate snow removal (and set up plow parameters in the parking lot so as not to have infringement on the property next door.
  • Responsible for the physical buildings located on all Pioneer PBS properties, such as roofs, exteriors, wells, interiors, etc.
  • This position is also responsible for working with management for maintaining an adequate inventory of necessary supplies, tools and related equipment.
  • Work with staff when needed and as necessary to assist with delivery or pickup of items i.e. mail, items for membership, receiving deliveries etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Maintain a current Minnesota driver’s license. A license adequate to drive the vehicle that pulls the mobile production truck.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Provide leadership and have initiative relating to maintenance and operation on projects, tasks, and issues/concerns related to Pioneer PBS facilities.
  • Be able to communicate with the Supervisor as well as all other departments as necessary related to the above listed responsibilities as well as other duties that arise.  Be able to work with others across the staff as a team.
  • Work with supervisor to accomplish work in a manner that aligns with the priorities set including any related activities identified on the station wide calendar.
  • Take initiative in acquiring job-related materials, educational opportunities and knowledge to enhance your ability to perform your job.
  • Responsible for keeping your work area and yourself clean, organized, and neat.  This includes shared spaces like tool storage areas etc.
  • Be prompt and timely for meetings, assignments and for all aspects of the job.
  • Be able to travel for extend periods.  Potentially obtain a health card to enable driving the truck and mobile studio.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Communications Manager is an effective written and well-spoken communicator and relationship builder with a passion for the mission of public media. They are responsible for brand management and leading the communications team that includes the Pioneer PBS website and social channels.  In addition to managing the department’s work product, they are also responsible for writing, editing, posting or photography as needed to ensure the team meets all deadlines. They will make regular presentations to an array of internal and external constituents and have strong presentation and data analysis skills.  They are also tasked with creating communication strategies and plans ensuring that messaging aligns with Pioneer PBS’s brand and fundraising goals. 

Functional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Oversight and supervision of Communications Department Staff with respect to:

  • Developing and implementing creative strategies to enhance brand awareness, member commitment, fundraising and grant opportunities.
  • Implements annual, monthly and weekly communications action plans which drive interest and visibility for membership, underwriting, grants and internal communications
  • Creates content such as media releases, newsletters, speeches, blogs, social media posts, membership communications and internal communications in collaboration with the Pioneer PBS team
  • Writing and distribution of media releases promoting local programs and station developments
  • Website Content Management (Via BENTO CMS)
  • E-Newsletter Creation and Contact Database Management
  • Social Media Content Strategy/Creation/Management Leading interviews of staff, members, community leaders and behind the scenes content
  • Graphic Design Oversight (Membership, Online, Productions, Logos and Other Projects)
  • Management of Online Video Portal, video organization and upload (YouTube, PBS Media Manager, Facebook and other social media platforms)
  • Management of Livestream of 5 channels.
  • Monitors communication campaigns, analyzing effectiveness and providing strategic feedback
  • Oversees Website Analytics (Weekly Reports to Management & Production Teams)
  • Oversees Social Media Analytics
  • Manages Google Adwords “Search” Ad Management
  • Tracking of Domain registrations and protection of brand external and internal. Scheduling, writing copy and managing external communications in collaboration with station leadership including bi-monthly publication of the Pioneer Preview Guide.
  • Public Speaking and Public Relations as one of the key faces of Pioneer PBS. Maintains organization-wide adherence to Pioneer PBS brand guidelines
  • Working cooperatively with representatives of all Pioneer departments to advance Pioneer’s mission
  • Compliance with all Pioneer PBS policies, grant or funder guidelines, FCC Guidelines and State and Federal Laws. Serves as a leader on the Management Team to ensure smooth operation and employee retention within all departments. Behaves as a role model for other employees in the organization.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

This position is required to tell Pioneer PBS’s story and convince others to support the organization financially. The Communications Manager will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related fields and/or have a demonstrated understanding of external and internal communications and branding as well as progressive success in messaging. The Communications Manager will be expected to be one of the key public faces of Pioneer PBS.  The Communications Manager must have project management and organizational abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent ability to track and analyze data and formulate trends and inspire changing direction when necessary.

Creativity and strategic thinking in developing compelling messaging.  Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Professionalism, ethical judgment and collaborative mindset.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. Our awesome volunteers happily spend their time at our studio in Granite Falls helping stuff envelopes for membership mailings that take place throughout the year.
