GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — The March edition of Pioneer PBS’s reformatted public affairs program Compassfeatures stories about land being returned to the Lower Sioux Indian Community by the state of Minnesota, Central Community Transit in Willmar and an episode of Undowanpi (We Sing). This program will air Thursday, March 11 at 9 p.m. and will be viewable online at www.pioneer.org/compass after the original airing. Viewers are encouraged to visit Compass on Facebook and on YouTube and give feedback on the stories.

In a historic event, 114 acres of land was returned to the Cansayapi community by the state of Minnesota and the Minnesota Historical Society. The Lower Sioux Indian Community held a signing and return ceremony at their community center. Lower Sioux Indian Community President Robert Larsen, Minnesota's Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Minnesota Historical Society President and CEO Kent Whitworth all gave moving speeches.

Many rural counties have community transit options that are vital supplements to rural transportation networks — one of them is the Central Community Transit. The CCT offices are located in Willmar, but they serve all residents of Kandiyohi, Renville and Meeker counties. Compass takes a trip with Senior Volunteer Drivers Bob and Lila Rekedal to see what it's like to drive for Central Community Transit and to learn more about this service.

The next segment features Desirae Desnomie, a backup singer from the group Midnite Express. Desnomie was interviewed for a project by Pioneer PBS’s Tanner Peterson, highlighting what traditional song and drum means to four different Native artists.

Viewers with story ideas and issues they would like to see discussed on Compass are encouraged to contact Pioneer PBS via email at yourtv@pioneer.org or call the station at 1-800-726-3178.
