GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, April 3, 2025—Host Bret Amundson visits with Adventuress Magazine’s Jennifer Pudenz, who has made it her mission to help more women be successful in the outdoors, and researchers study cyanobacteria threats to Lake Superior, all on the next Prairie Sportsman. “Women Adventurers and Lake Superior Threats” will air on Pioneer PBS Sunday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. Check local listings and our showtimes landing page for air dates and times on other PBS stations in Minnesota and surrounding states.
In “Women Helping Women,” Host Bret Amundson goes ice fishing with Jennifer Pudenz of Adventuress Magazine as she visits the Northwest Angle for the first time. They discuss her mission to help more women be successful in the outdoors through the magazine and how she guides outdoor ministry events. Jennifer notes, “Adventuress is actually the only women’s hunting and fishing magazine … and it’s all about giving credit to experienced women and also sharing that with other women. When I was growing up I didn’t have any women to look up to in the outdoor industry, and follow like that, so that’s a really big deal to me that other people have that.”
In the next segment, “A Superior Threat,”researchers study the evolutionarysignificance of cyanobacteria, more commonly called blue-green algae, as the organismbegins to appear in the cold waters of Lake Superior. Understanding these bloomsis key to predicting when the toxic version of cyanobacteria might appear and pose threats to people and pets.
In the final segment, Fast Forager, Nicole Zempel introduces us to the medicinal power of mullein for help with asthma and other breathing issues. The plant can grow up to 10 feet tall, flowering in the morning and closing up in the afternoon.
