GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, March 27, 2025—Host Bret Amundson visits Wings North, a hunting club near Pine City, Minnesota, that gives individuals a chance to learn about the outdoors and takes some dogs nearing the end of their hunting careers on a hunt, all on the next Prairie Sportsman. “Wings North and Old Dog Hunt” will air on Pioneer PBS Sunday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. Check local listings and our showtimes landing page for air dates and times on other PBS stations in Minnesota and surrounding states.
In “Old Dogs,” host Bret Amundson joins a group of pheasant hunters as they take their beloved older dogs on perhaps their last hunt. Get to know these special members of the family, learn what giving 100% really means, and follow along on the emotional journey to learn why old dogs are indeed the best.
In “Wings North,” host Bret Amundson visits Wings North, a family-run hunting club near Pine City, Minnesota, that’s been in business for over 25 years. Wings North provides individuals with an opportunity to learn about the outdoors. Visitors can walk fields for pheasants and other upland birds. Wings North also hosts high school trap teams, women’s events, and so much more.
In the final segment, forager Nicole Zempel chases down the elusive “old man of the woods” mushroom. An edible mushroom that exchanges nutrients with other plants it draws life from.
