GRANITE FALLS, Minn. February 8th, 2024 - The next Prairie Sportsman features pheasant hunting, Gunflint Trail stories, ways to protect our environment and foraging for yarrow. “Pheasants and Stewardship” airs on Pioneer PBS Sunday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m.
In “40 Year Pheasant,” former Minnesota Conservation Officer Darin Fagerman tells stories from his days of patrolling the Gunflint Trail. Now that he is retired, he is pheasant hunting for the first time in more than 40 years.
“Stewardship Starts at Home,” presents a wide range of ways Minnesotans can restore and protect natural resources. Citizens can reduce pollutants like plastic and sidewalk salt, use lead-free shot and fishing tackle, provide habitat for birds and butterflies, prevent the spread of invasive species and volunteer to help agencies monitor wildlife and water quality.
In the final segment, Nicole Zempel forages for yarrow, a native plant with diverse uses, from teas to tinctures for wound care. Yarrow extracts may also aid digestion, reduce fever and support circulatory and immune systems.
