GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer PBS’s Postcards program will feature a story about two sisters from Knife River on the North Shore who make candy the old fashioned way using recipes invented by their grandfather in the early 1900s. The program will air on Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m., on Sunday, May 3 at 7 p.m. and on Monday, May 4 at 1:30 p.m. The stories will also be available for online viewing through the station’s website: www.pioneer.org/postcards.

Independent filmmaker Tess Wagman’s first film Great! Lakes is about the Canelake sisters, their candy store and their family's history. Great! Lakes was featured at the Free Range Film Festival in 2019. This Postcards episode features an interview with Wagman as well as the entire 20-minute film. “People don't realize the amount of effort and time that it takes to make this candy,” Wagman said. The Canelake sisters “love what they do, they love serving their community and contributing to life here,” she added.
