GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer PBS’s Postcards program will feature a story about award-winning flat plane figure carver Harley Refsal of Decorah Iowa to be released on Thursday, February 24 at 7 p.m. At noon the stories will be available for online viewing through the station’s website: www.pioneer.org/postcards and YouTube Channel.
Harley Refsal is an internationally recognized figure carver, specializing in Scandinavian flat-plane style of woodcarving. He was born and raised on a farm near Hoffman, Minnesota, which was homesteaded by his Norwegian-immigrant grandparents. He began working in wood as a young boy and went on to live in Norway and teach at Luther college in Decorah, IA. The Postcards team interviewed him at his home there to record this special tribute to this beloved instructor.
