GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, June 11, 2024 – Pioneer PBS will be hosting a screening of selected segments from “Minnesota’s Alt-Meat Revolution” during Dawson’s annual Riverfest. The screening will take place on June 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Dawson Aquatic Center, 121 1st Street at the main park shelter, immediately following the gnome unveiling ceremony. Admission to the screening is free and open to the public, however a $5 Riverfest button is required to attend the gnome unveiling.
“Minnesota’s Alt-Meat Revolution” is a video and print journalism collaboration project, looking into the roots and impact of the plant-protein phenomenon that’s exploding across the globe. The project is a partnership between Pioneer PBS, West Central Tribune and WORLD, with funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
“It has been spectacular to learn about how Dawson has really been the center of the universe when it comes to plant-based protein development,” said the series’ producer and host Amanda Anderson. “Innovation in this space took place right here and the small town of Dawson has a lot to be proud of.”
“This event is the culmination of a year’s worth of researching the world of plant-based proteins: from the history and development of “fake” meats – with roots in Dawson at Dawson Mills plant – to the impact that plant-based proteins are having on agricultural and dietary trends,” said President and General Manager Shari Lamke.
A number of Dawson residents were featured in the series, including former AGP manager Lee Gunderson, PURIS human resource manager Megan Lynch and A-Frame Farm owner Luke Peterson. Some people featured in the series will be present at the event to answer questions that audience. Additionally, Pioneer PBS producer Amanda Anderson and videographer/editor Esmeralda Ziemer will also be in attendance.
