GRANITE FALLS, Minn — 18 Pioneer PBS programs have been nominated for Upper Midwest Emmy® awards to be presented at an event hosted by the Upper Midwest Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on October 9, 2021.
Eight stories created and aired this past year by the Pioneer PBS Postcards production team of Dana Conroy, Ben Dempcy and Kristofor Gieske are in the running for awards. The selected stories feature interviews with filmmakers, chefs, a musician, a toy tractor collector, a luthier, a Vietnam veteran, Dakota horse riders and a tattoo artist from towns such as Madison, Morton, Montevideo, New London, St. Joseph, Northfield, Brookings, South Dakota and other communities in the extensive Pioneer PBS viewing area.
Seven segments and one full episode nominated were created by the Pioneer PBS Prairie Sportsman production team of Cindy Dorn, Bret Amundson and Dylan Curfman. The nominated stories highlight the dedication of conservationist Ginger Homme of Granite Falls, hiker Emily Ford of Duluth, whitewater rafting on the Kettle River, the Quality Bluegill Initiative, tapping maple syrup at Osprey Wilds and Get the Lead Out campaign promoting nontoxic fishing tackle. Also nominated was an episode featuring Nobles County Pheasants Forever’s award-winning conservation efforts and annual veterans hunt and Minnesota researchers developing printable solar cells made from agricultural byproducts.
Bret Amundson was nominated in the “Host/Moderator” category for his talent on the Pioneer PBS production Prairie Sportsman, which airs on Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota and North Dakota PBS stations.
