GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, October 23, 2024 — On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Pioneer PBS’s locally produced programs Postcards and Prairie Sportsman took home three Upper Midwest Emmy® awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Upper Midwest Chapter during an awards ceremony in Prior Lake, Minnesota. This is the 12th year in a row that Pioneer PBS has received Upper Midwest Emmys® for its local programs, for a total of 31 Emmys since 2013.
The Pioneer PBS Postcards team, produced by Dana Conroy with videography and editing from Ben Dempcy and Kristofor Gieske, received two Emmys for The 1968 Presidential Election Campaign (Mary Beth McCarthy Yarrow) and Eight Women Together Alone. Mike Scholtz also produced and edited the latter.
The 1968 Presidential Election Campaign (Mary Beth McCarthy Yarrow) won the Politics/Government - Short From Content (Up to 15 Minutes) category award. The story features Film Producer Mary Beth McCarthy Yarrow who shares her involvement in her uncle Eugene McCarthy's 1968 presidential campaign and the Vietnam War's public perception, alongside her relationship with her former husband, Peter Yarrow.
Eight Women Together Alone won an award in the Documentary - Historical category. The story features the Willmar 8, who walked off their jobs in 1977 during America's first bank strike, and how, in 2024, they are now reevaluating their legacy and the state of women's rights five decades later.
The Prairie Sportsmanteam also received an Emmy for their story on Deep Crappie Research. The team includes Dylan Curfman as producer, videographer, and editor, Cindy Dorn as producer and writer, Bret Amundson as host and producer, and Dan Amundson and Cera Cordova as additional videographers and editors.
