GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, April 9, 2026 —“Bee’s Books and Blooms,” the next episode of Prairie Yard & Garden, airs Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. on Pioneer PBS. Host Mary Holm visits a Grand Forks garden that serves as both a personal retreat and a neighborhood gathering space, featuring vibrant flowers, fresh vegetables and a Little Free Library.
The garden is maintained by Mary and Allan Morken, who have transformed their yard into a community-focused space rooted in Mary’s lifelong appreciation for gardening and reading — interests inspired by her mother.
What began as a personal tribute has grown into a neighborhood destination with perennial plantings, a designated Monarch Waystation and a backyard cutting garden where children can create bouquets. The couple also shares practical techniques, including seed-starting methods and the creation of educational garden signage.
The episode also explores food safety and gardening best practices. Dr. Julie Garden-Robinson of North Dakota State University’s Field to Fork program discusses the importance of proper food preservation, emphasizing safe canning methods.
Annie Klodd of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum offers guidance on planting in boulevard spaces, recommending durable, salt-tolerant trees and low-growing pollinator gardens to improve these often underutilized areas.
Prairie Yard & Garden rebroadcasts Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Mondays at 1 p.m. following the initial broadcast on Pioneer PBS.
