GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer Public Television’s Postcards program will feature emerging student artists from the University of Minnesota, Morris on Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. The episode will be rebroadcast on Sunday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, April 22 at 1:30 p.m. The stories will also be available for online viewing through the station’s website: www.pioneer.org/postcards.
Hailey LaMont of Hot Springs, South Dakota will graduate in May 2019 from UMM with degrees in studio art and communications. She works in the mediums of sculpture, photography and ceramics. LaMont finds art everywhere and she she loves how her liberal arts experience at UMM has helped her see connections between disparate subjects. After graduating, LaMont plans on finding employment in communications and marketing where she can apply her knowledge of art within advertising.
Paige Quinlivan of Saint Paul will graduate in May 2019 from UMM with a theater major. Ever since high school, Quinlivan knew that she loved playwriting more than anything else in her life. Recently, her one-act play John Hughes Wrote My Diary was chosen for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) one-act play reading contest. It is also a finalist for the KCACTF National Festival John Cauble Award for Outstanding Short Play. Quinlivan is interested in attending graduate school and eventually teaching playwriting or opening her own theatre company. Quinlivan trusts that her UMM experience has prepared her for what lies ahead.
Kaylee Christenson is from Clara City and will also graduate in May 2019 from UMM with degrees in studio art and communications. She works in the mediums of screen printing and photography and she draws inspiration from the tattoo artist community. Christenson hopes to work in a gallery and her dream job is to work with the tattoo community. She appreciates how her UMM experience has helped to make her work more substantial, contemplative and well developed.
Caroline Vodacek is from New Auburn, Wisconsin and is graduating May of 2019 as a studio art and English major. Vodacek loves to work with wood and prints and is inspired by nature. She sees art as helping to create visual memories and she values the process of working with a community that can inform her evolution as an artist. Vodacek’s UMM experience has helped her see that art, like nature, grows from a connected system of stimuli and interdependence.
