GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — What does the state archaeologist do? A conversation about archaeology in Minnesota with former Minnesota state archaeologist Scott Anfinson and professor Rebecca Dean is the topic of Pioneer PBS’ next Compass public affairs program on Thursday, June 20 at 9 p.m. The program will be rebroadcast on Sunday, June 23 at 12:30 p.m. and viewable online at www.pioneer.org/compass after the original airing.
Pioneer PBS President and General Manager Les Heen talks with Scott Anfinson who served in the position of state archeologist from 2006 to 2016. Originally from Benson, Anfinson was charged with overseeing 3,000 pioneer cemeteries and 12,000 American Indian burial mounds. Joining in on the discussion is Rebecca Dean, associate professor of anthropology at the University of Minnesota, Morris. Dean was the recipient of the 2017 University of Minnesota, Morris Alumni Association Teaching Award.
