GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer PBS’s videographer and editor Ben Dempcy has been named a 2023 Growing Local: Emerging Leader by the Southwest Initiative Foundation. Dempcy has worked at Pioneer PBS for ten years on its award-winning arts, culture and history program, Postcards.
Fourteen individuals from southwest Minnesota will be participating in this first cohort, which is a partnership between SWIF and the University of Minnesota, Extension. This cohort will participate in six informational sessions, where they will “gain tools and resources to build their confidence and empower them to shape the future in places that matter most to them,” according to a SWIF press release.
Dempcy, who lives in Granite Falls, says that he’s the most excited to be able to take what he learns in this cohort and give back to his community. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this professional community and am eager to learn new ways to become a more efficient leader. For me, the most inspiring aspect of leadership is the potential to make a positive impact in my community.”
