GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — The November edition of Pioneer PBS’s public affairs program Compass features a story produced by The Guardian about the Asatru Folk Assembly and a look at an organization that helps people age safely at home. This program will air Thursday, November 11 at 9 p.m. and will be viewable online at www.pioneer.org/compass after the original airing. Viewers are encouraged to visit Compass on Facebook and YouTube to give feedback on the stories.
For the past year, Compass has been following the Asatru Folk Assembly — a whites-only religious group — and their move into Murdock, Minnesota. Asatru Folk Assembly is an offshoot of the Heathen religion Asatru. In October, The Guardian published a story about the organization using footage from Compass’ reporting. The Guardian explored this whites-only group and distinguished between inclusive and exclusive Heathen and Asatru groups.
Originally called Rebuilding Together Twin Cities, the organization is expanding and is now Rebuilding Together Minnesota. They’ve partnered with the city of Windom and opened an office there serving Cottonwood, Jackson and Nobles counties. The mission of the organization is to help people age at home, safely, by making home modifications at no cost to the homeowner. Compass visited a home having some modifications made to prevent falling in the shower.
Viewers with story ideas and issues they would like to see discussed on Compass are encouraged to contact Pioneer PBS via email at yourtv@pioneer.org or call the station at 1-800-726-3178.
