GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — With school districts across the state in their last weeks of at-home learning and parents looking for ideas on how to keep their kids curious over the summer, Pioneer PBS has curated a list of locally produced history, art and science stories that further appreciation and knowledge of our own backyard.

Visitors to pioneer.org//locallearningvideos can view an introductory selection of award-winning and recently released videos on topics as diverse as the Vietnam War and WWII history told through the eyewitness accounts of local vets, how chronic wasting disease is affecting local deer herds and how a new grain crop is being developed that comes up every year without planting.

“We want to make it easy for parents to provide their kids with safe, trusted, commercial free content that comes from the small towns and farming communities of our region,” stated Jon Panzer, interim general manager of Pioneer PBS. “As we seek funds to develop lesson plans for these videos, we hope for them to be ready to use as classroom resources for summer school and when/if distance learning continues in the fall.”

The local learning videos provide a compliment to a vast array of at-home learning resources offered by the nationwide PBS system. These resources include PBS LearningMedia — a free resource for PreK-12 educators that supports distance learning; the PBS Kids live stream, website and video app; and the WORLD Channel At-Home Learning programs for students grade 6-12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday.
