GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, April 24, 2025—Kilt-maker Sheila Tabaka, composer Jacob Pavek, and painter A’ja Nauden will be featured on the next episode of Postcards, which airs Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. on Pioneer PBS. The episode repeats the following Sunday at 7 p.m. and Monday at 1:30 p.m. Join us for stories of creativity and craftsmanship.

Sheila Tabaka of Marshall, Minnesota, is a skilled kilt-maker and costume designer at the theater department at Southwest Minnesota State University. Her initial interest lay in Scottish culture rather than kilt-making itself. However, she took a kilt-making shop just outside of Edinburgh on sabbatical and fell in love with it. Recognizing that kiltmaking in the United Kingdom is an endangered craft, she's now dedicated to preserving it.

Jacob Pavek of St. Paul, Minnesota, is a passionate composer, musician, and pianist. His passion for music stemmed from his dad, who plays guitar. In high school, he explored songwriting, but discovering instrumental music allowed him to express his true self. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, he’s since created a solo piano album titled "Bloom." He now enjoys combining modern influences with instrumental piano and collecting various types of pianos to explore different sounds.

A’ja Nauden of Chicago, Illinois, is an artist and painter who explores various paint mediums to create textured work. She’s a lifelong artist, but a trip to a museum featuring an art piece with a single line profoundly changed her view on abstract art. Now all of her art transcends traditional boundaries. Growing up was hard for her, marked by her parents' struggles, and being a lifelong athlete, she felt like she didn’t belong as an artist. This perception shifted during college when one of her art pieces was bought, validating her artistic pursuits.
