GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer PBS’s Postcards will feature a preview of a documentary about a project led by Southwest Minnesota State’s Dr. Daniel Rieppel to pair the work of the late Bill Holm to music. This program will air on Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m.

The late Bill Holm is one of Minnesota’s most iconic poets and essayists. The film, called “Playing Haydn for the Angel of Death” after one of Bill Holm’s epic poems, takes viewers on a breathtaking trip to Reykjavik, Iceland. While there, viewers will learn about the project, led by Dr. Daniel Rieppel, to pair Holm’s poem to music composed by Martha Helen Schmidt and sung by Southwest Minnesota State University graduate and opera singer Ryan Hugh Ross. This episode will also feature an excerpt of the final musical performance.

Before the airing of this episode, Pioneer PBS and SMSU will be co-hosting a screening event of the full documentary on May 10 on SMSU’s campus.
