GRANITE FALLS, Minn., January 23rd, 2024 - In the next episode of Prairie Sportsman, Host Bret Amundson joins Scott Moon for a once-in-a-lifetime elk hunt, researchers look for ways to remove toxic PFAS from the environment, and Nicole Zemple forages for wild grapes. “Chasing Northern Elk” airs Sunday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. on Pioneer PBS.

In “Elk in Ag Country,” Minnesota is home to some big elk, and each year residents can apply for a once-in-a-lifetime tag to hunt them. Host Bret Amundson tags along with Scott Moon on his elk hunt and along the way meets another hunter with a special story.

“Forever Chemicals” looks at PFAS that have been used in a myriad of products since the late 1950s, from food wrappers and Scotchgard, to fire-fighting foam. 3M will no longer make products with the toxic chemicals, but PFAS are still unregulated. While there are no effective methods to remove the highly-soluble chemicals from wastewater, researchers are testing methods to remove PFAS from soils.

Join Nicole Zempe in “Fast Forage: Wild Grapes” as she explores the world of wild grapes. Amidst the sprawling vines, Nicole shares insights on their edible leaves and tart berries. Discover culinary wonders from grape-stuffed delicacies to spicy barbecue sauces. Stay cautious, ensuring you're picking the right berries from the same vine. A delightful journey through nature's bounty and flavorful possibilities awaits!
