GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer PBS’s Postcards will feature Vietnam War veterans Royal and Charlie Hettling’s Vietnam Memorial and History Center on its upcoming episode. This program will air on Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m.
Located in the heart of Minneota, the Vietnam Memorial and History Center is dedicated to telling the stories of the Vietnam War. The museum's founders, brothers and Vietnam War veterans themselves, Royal and Charlie Hettling do this by collecting and curating private photographs, newspaper articles and personal accounts of the war that highlight people’s different, and often conflicting, experiences during the Vietnam War era.
“Sometimes we like to demonize the other side,” said Charlie Hettling. “If you only tell one side, it gets pretty lopsided.” Postcards visited the museum to talk with the Hettlings about their experiences during the Vietnam War and what inspired them to start the museum.
People in Pioneer PBS’s viewing area can watch or livestream this episode at www.pioneer.org/live on Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m. This episode will be repeated on Sunday, May 20 at 7 p.m. and Monday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. The program will also be available to stream at www.pioneer.org/postcards and on Postcards’ YouTube page at www.youtube.com/@PostcardsOnPioneerPBS.
