Candidates from House District 16A, 16B, 21A, 21B and Senate District 16 to answer questions regarding issues facing their districts.
GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Pioneer PBS will be airing five back-to-back candidate forums on Thursday, October 13 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The programs will be available for online viewing soon after at www.pioneer.org/meetthecandidates.
“Pioneer PBS is taking a different approach to the usual live debates with the goal of having a more informative, less divisive atmosphere around the election process,” explained President and General Manager Shari Lamke. “This year, we are individually interviewing each candidate and asking everyone the same questions. This way our viewers get succinct, uninterrupted overviews of the candidate’s positions in their own words,” Lamke added.
Four of the five races to be featured on October 13 have incumbents in the House and Senate and one race is an open seat. Due to redistricting, which has set new boundaries for the districts, the numbers identifying Senate and House districts have changed for several of the races.
The first interview with opposing candidates’ will be between Minnesota House District 16A challenger Robert Wright, DFL, and Incumbent Dean Urdahl, R. At 7:30 p.m., House 16B challenger Fred Cogelow, DFL, and incumbent Dave Baker, R, will share their views. At 8 p.m. the interview with Senate District 16 challenger Fernando Alvarado DFL will be shown followed by incumbent Senator Andrew Lang, R.
At 8:30 p.m., House district 21A challenger Patrick Baustian, DFL, will state his views, followed by incumbent Joe Schomacker, R. Finally, at 9 p.m., Michael Heidelberger, DFL, and Marj Fogelman, R, will present their pre-recorded answers in this open race for a seat recently vacated by Representative Rod Hamilton.
