GRANITE FALLS, Minn. —Pioneer PBS’s Postcards program will feature stories about Grand Marias based boat builder Mark Hansen, a Titanic survivor from Proctor and a special cat named Hugo will be released on Thursday, February 17 at 12 noon. The stories will also be available for online viewing through the station’s website: www.pioneer.org/postcards and YouTube Channel.

Master woodworker Mark Hansen has been a designer and builder of wooden boats and small shelters since he was a youngster on his family’s farm. Mark was involved in the formation of the North House Folk school in Grand Marias and has taught a variety of courses there such as traditional boat building, small home construction, and the making of skis, toboggans, sleds, paddles, oars, bellows, and yurts. His family’s motto was, “why buy when you can make?”

After the sinking of the Titanic, a Norwegian survivor -- Anna Larsen, made her home in Proctor, Minnesota. Filmmaker Mike Scholtz visited with the current owners of her house Jason and Kim Seguin, to learn how they have honored her memory in a very surprising way.

The final episode comes to us from filmmaker Justin Christopher Ayd of Minneapolis who shares with us his homage to his dearly departed cat “Hugo.”  The award-winning film was an official selection at the  Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival and has been viewed by audiences in Turkey, Romania and India.
