As a result of winning the contest, the film will now be shown at the International Audience Awards Film Festival at the Laemmle Theater in North Hollywood in April 2017. A $300 cash prize was also awarded.
The film features stunning images of Alexa Score’s acrobatic moves captured in Florida mixed with home shot footage taken by her family when she was growing up on Green Lake in Spicer.
Senior producer, Dana Johnson and videographer/editors, Kris Gieske and Ben Dempcy, of Pioneer’s Postcards team collaborated over the past year to make the film. They were assisted by Pioneer intern Brendan Stermer from the University of Minnesota, Morris. Jacob Pavek wrote the original score that underlies and enhances the documentary which was originally broadcast in May 2016 and has since been viewed and shared more than 30,000 times on social media.
Alexa Score grew up on Green Lake in Spicer, Minnesota and won the national women's amateur wakeboard title in 2010. This documentary traces Score’s journey from an athletic and daring young girl to her emergence as a national competitor on the wakeboard circuit. It is an inspirational story of perseverance through pain and impossible odds that captures how Score faces an uncertain future with indefatigable optimism, courage and hope. “It all started here in Spicer, on Green Lake,” said Score. “It’s neat. Coming from a small town and really being able to see the world is pretty cool,” she added.
