APPLETON, Minn. — In honor of Veterans Day 2017, Pioneer will be broadcasting a special, locally produced Veterans Day program on Saturday, November 11 at 7 p.m. The program will be recorded live on Friday, November 10 at the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Granite Falls and will feature musical performances by the Yellow Medicine East (YME) Concert Band and Concert Choir and Middle School choir. The keynote speech will be delivered by Lt. Col. Shawnn L. Martin, commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps and professor of Aerospace Studies at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. The program will be available for online viewing at www.pioneer.org/specials after November 13.
In the complete online version of the program, YME Middle and High School Principal Ryan Luft will provide introductory and closing remarks and several YME students will read essays with Veterans Day themes. The Granite Falls VFW/American Legion Honor Guard will advance the colors and the Boy Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Students from YME and area community members will make up the standing room only audience assembled in the Bomber hangar at the Fagen Fighters Museum.
