PYG host Mary Holm paid a visit to the Grass Roots Garden Center near Ottertail last summer to learn about their unique approach to running a greenhouse, where all the plants are grown on site and not shipped in from wholesalers. It is a kid friendly place that has kittens to play with, fresh herbs to snip, hydroponic tomatoes and fresh melons to sample. Proprietor Tom Meinhover and his staff make customers feel welcome by encouraging them to bring a picnic lunch as they explore the grounds and hang out on the center’s rooftop patio.
Celebrating its 30th season PYG is a trusted and popular program dedicated to the delivery of science-based horticulture information and practices. Over the course of every season, PYG visits with researchers, extension educators, private businesses, industry reps and exceptional gardeners to keep viewers current with the latest information and trends.
