The Halvorson family attended their first bluegrass festival in 2006 and was immediately hooked. At the last minute, the boys and their dad decided to enter a talent show. They won an opportunity to return the following year for a full set, and they've been performing ever since. The oldest, Daniel, sings and plays fiddle, mandolin, dobro and guitar. John sings and plays bass, banjo and guitar. Madeline sings and plays fiddle. Their dad, Loren, sings and plays guitar and banjo. The family is happy to be joined by Kiley Ellingson who sings and plays bass, guitar, and mandolin. Kiley, along with Daniel and John, have played in the Barton's Hollow band. The Halvorson Family Band has performed at the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old Time Music Festival, Winter Bluegrass Weekend, Milaca RecFest, Butterfield Threshing Bee, and other festivals and events around their home in Mankato, Minnesota.
