Governor Dayton engaged with Johnson and Nicollet in what, so far, has been called “the most polite race ever” in Minnesota Gubernatorial debate history. The line of questioning focused on issues of concern to communities in rural Minnesota. Question topics included local government aid/property taxes, transportation, broadband expansion, environmental regulations and job training. Jay Furst, Managing Editor of the Rochester Post Bulletin, served as the moderator. The Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities hosted the debate along with the Post Bulletin and the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.
The debate was a co-production of Pioneer Public Television and KMSQ Public Television of Austin. Pioneer’s new mobile studio was used to broadcast the debate in concert with KSMQ’s production crew. The program was shared with all of the stations in the Minnesota Public Television Association network.
