The Good Intentions Bluegrass Band delivers traditional bluegrass with polish and drive. The band plays songs from the bluegrass masters as well as original material by bandleader Chris Silver. Soulful original arrangements of their songs have already established the band in the hearts of the Midwest bluegrass community. Formerly of the bands Stoney Lonesome, Tangled Roots, and the Kate Mackenzie Band, Silver plays fiddle and mandolin with a deep appreciation for traditional bluegrass music. He is joined by Banjo player Heath Loy, guitarist Mike Cramer and J D. Shaffer on the bass.
Inspired by the legends of bluegrass, with subtle influence from new grass sounds of today, Porcupine Creek is made up of young talented musicians from throughout the northern half of Minnesota. The band covers bluegrass and gospel favorites and mixes in a few original songs, which pleases crowds of all ages.
The band formed in 2012 as a result of a talent contest at the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA) August festival. Since then, they’ve played at other festivals and various community events. Members of Porcupine Creek include Jake Ashworth on banjo; Ben Ashworth on guitar; Derek Birkeland on vocals, guitar, fiddle and mandolin; David Ashworth on mandolin; Holger Olesen on vocals and resonator guitar; Sarah Birkeland on vocals and bass; and Dulcie Ashworth on vocals and fiddle.
