In March of 2015, four Minnesotans --Winchell Delano, Daniel Flynn, John Keaveny, and Adam Trigg were joined by Jarrad Moore and Luke Kimmes of Iowa to embark on the Rediscover North America expedition from the Gulf of Mexico. 240 days later they completed their journey having paddled through nine states, five provinces and taking 11 rivers to complete the journey. The expedition was chosen by Canoe and Kayak magazine as the Expedition of the Year in 2016 and the documentary they made about their journey won the Best Adventure Travel film of the year at the Reel Paddling Film Festival in 2017.
On April 26, 2015, Pioneer Public TV met up with the adventurers at the continental divide in Browns Valley. This marked a historic turning point, ending the first leg of the journey, which required paddling upstream on the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. There the group took a rare day’s rest, met up with their families and resupplied themselves for the remaining downstream trip to the Arctic Ocean. Interviews with the expedition members reflecting on their journey are interspersed with highlights from the documentary. The full documentary can be viewed on the Rediscover North America website at http://www.rediscoverna.com
Postcards is produced by Dana Conroy (nee Dana Johnson) with videography and editing by Kristofor Gieske and Ben Dempcy.
