In the featured story for the episode, Compass producer Laura Kay Prosser visits with Matt Logan, a motivational speaker from Byron, who lost his daughter in a distracted driving accident and with Willmar Police Captain Mike Anderson and Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog about their project to crackdown on texting while driving known as “elevated enforcement.” Viewers will get a insider's view of this new program which involves officers being placed in buses to get an elevated view inside vehicles where drivers may have been texting or illegally using their cell phones. Police say drivers choosing texting over safety jeopardizes the lives of others on the road.
Pioneer’s General Manager Les Heen hosts an in-studio discussion with Vijay Dixit, founder of the Shreya R. Dixit Memorial Foundation and Stephanie Felt, Kandiyohi County Safe Community Coordinator about the issue of distracted driving and what parents and communities can do to address the problem, which has caused more than 3,000 deaths per year in the U.S.
For the featured regional author spotlight, Prosser interviews Vijay Dixit of Eden Prairie Minnesota about his book One Split Second which details the real-life story Dixit's daughter who died in a distracted driving accident and includes disturbing research about human behavior behind the wheel.
