Pioneer’s Compass producer Laura Kay Prosser takes viewers to New London, Minnesota where she interviews Josh Reed about how he worked to establish the Goat Ridge Brewery to create a sophisticated beer with a small town flavor. The Goat Ridge taproom was awarded the "Best Surprise of 2016" by the Tap Traveler blog.
Pioneer’s General Manager, Les Heen, hosts an in-studio discussion with Goat Ridge co-owner Kelly Asche of Hancock and Kirk Bloemendaal, a board member of the Take 16 Brewery in Luverne. The Take 16 Brewing Company was founded in 2013 by a community of nearly 100 investors. Heen, Asche and Bloemendaal discuss the latest trends contributing to the emergence of breweries in small towns throughout the region.
For the Compass Literature Corner, Prosser interviews poet Kevin Zepper of Moorhead, Minn. about his latest collection of poems “Sugartown.” "Sugartown" is Zepper’s fourth book and the title and lead poem pay homage to sugar harvesting in the Red River Valley.
