Over the course of the 19 day membership drive, several regional communities will be featured during live television pledge nights. The community that gets the most individuals to call in and pledge support to Pioneer will win a six month program sponsorship package to promote the community through Pioneer’s broadcast network.
Featured communities include: Windom and the River City Eatery (Feb. 28), the Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce and Community Theater (March 1), Worthington’s Minnesota West Campus (March 3), the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce (March 8th), the Appleton Hospital and Chamber of Commerce (March 10), the Luverne Chamber of Commerce (March 14), Morris Chamber of Commerce and the Stevens Community Medical Center (March 15). The live membership drive programs will be held in the evenings during prime time broadcasts of special programming on Pioneer.
Featured volunteers from the communities will include Mayors, Chamber of Commerce directors, small business owners, professionals and small town citizens from all walks of life. Community specific prizes will be awarded as thank you gifts to those who call in to pledge their support for Pioneer. On several of the evening programs, live music will be played in the studio featuring musicians from Montevideo, Granite Falls, the Upper Sioux Community and Minneapolis. Facebook and social media contests featuring photos and trivia about the communities will take place online during the drive.
“We have great supporters in many communities and this is a way to recognize and celebrate that support,” said President and General Manager Les Heen. Pioneer recently negotiated the expansion of its signal to the Dish Network satellite service serving the Twin Cities designated market area (DMA). With a signal reaching to counties in western Wisconsin on the east and to the Missouri River on the west, Pioneer has one of the largest geographic viewing areas of any PBS station in the nation emanating from one of the smallest towns in the PBS system.
Pioneer Public TV is an award winning, viewer-supported television station dedicated to sharing local stories of the region with the world. The station can be viewed over the air on KWCM Channel 10 in Appleton, KSMN Channel 20 in Worthington and K49FA in Fergus Falls as well as on dozens of cable channels and on satellite channels in the Sioux Falls Designated Market Area (DMA). Pioneer is now viewable on Channel 10 in the local line-up via Dish Network satellite in the Twin Cities DMA and will soon be viewable on DirecTV. Most local productions are also posted online at pioneer.org.
