Liberal arts programs in colleges throughout the state are under increasing pressure to demonstrate that their perceived higher cost is worth it. The University of Minnesota Morris was designed in the 1960’s to provide an affordable alternative to the private liberal arts colleges for which Minnesota is known. UMM’s Johnson discusses some of the unique scholarship programs that are available to students through UMM. “We prepare our students to live as active citizens in whatever communities they might end up in with skills that are critical to living in a democratic society,“ Johnson said.
