Pioneer Public Television's Board of Directors has announced that we are moving station headquarters from Appleton to Granite Falls, Minnesota. This move is made possible by a generous gift from Ron and Diane Fagen of Granite Falls.
We are incredibly moved by this transformational gift and excited about the many possibilities it opens up for the future of Pioneer and most importantly, for you, our viewers. This shift will include an expansion of Pioneer’s facilities, which will provide the space we need to produce high-definition television, allow for expansion of regional programming like Postcards and Prairie Yard and Garden and allow us to keep pace with the growth and changes in television technology.
As you may know, we’ve been outgrowing our current facility for a number of years. In light of this, we have been working hard over the past five years to consider needs and plan for the future of Pioneer Public TV. After many conversations with local leaders, in-depth consideration by our board of directors and a formal feasibility study, the potential to secure the funding necessary from private sources for the proposed Appleton facility was deemed to be quite limited. Then, quite unexpectedly, while in the early stages of planning a capital campaign, Ron and Diane Fagen stepped forward with a generous offer to finance the entire building cost.
This gift will allow us to move toward our vision more quickly than we had anticipated. Construction on the state-of-the-art facility near the intersection of Highway 23 and 212 is planned for 2016. We hope to begin occupying the building as soon as early 2017.
We know that this news will be met with mixed feelings, especially for the people in the Appleton area, who have loyally supported our growth over the years. It will be difficult for us to move from this community and the people in it. We are, however, energized by what our future holds and view this expansion as an opportunity to adapt, innovate, stay nimble and embrace the changing currents of our industry and communities to remain relevant to our region.
Pioneer is a communicator for small towns, farming communities and small city residents who prefer open spaces to big city living. We exist to create TV that can inspire and connect the region served by Pioneer and we can't stop thinking about the stories of our region that we want to tell to the world. This major donor investment in bricks and mortar will now allow Pioneer to more broadly consider our future programming needs.
We look forward to sharing more details and opportunities to support this exciting effort. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our phone number is 1-800 726-3178, email: email@example.com. Mailing address: 120 W. Schlieman Ave., Appleton, MN 56208.
