Increasingly, communities throughout Minnesota are working to insure that students have enough to eat on weekends and when they are not in school. In the featured story for the episode, Compass producer Laura Kay Prosser meets with Betsy Hennen and Dawn Gartner of Olivia to learn about Renville County’s “Back the Pack” program which serves food insecure families.
Pioneer’s General Manager, Les Heen, hosts an in-studio discussion with Margaret Palan who works out of Marshall Minn, as a Community Resource Coordinator for United Community Action Partnership, and with Jenny Butcher, Food and Nutrition Service Outreach Lead for the Minnesota Department of Education to talk about how food outreach programs and other anti-hunger initiatives are being implemented throughout the state.
For the Compass Literature Corner, Prosser interviews author Patrick Hicks of Sioux Falls, SD about his new collection of short stories "The Collector of Names" which delves into the lives and psyches of fictional but prototypical midwestern characters as they address the fears and mysteries of death.
