Viewers will see Congressman Collin Peterson introduce the Chord-Ayres in the program that was originally recorded in November of 2014. Al Johnsrud of Montevideo emceed the event where 34 western Minnesota men, under the direction of Ted Albers of Appleton, sang their hearts out on the Kennedy Center stage. Toward the end of the program, pianist Nancy Moen of Appleton is acknowledged for her 45 years of service to the Chord-Ayres.
The Chord-Ayres were started in the basement of the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church near rural Louisburg in 1969 and have been sponsored by American Legion Post 359 in Milan since 1982. In 2012, the Chord-Ayres were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. The special broadcast begins with an excerpt of Pioneer’s Postcards program about the Chord-Ayres that first aired in in 2013.
